A cracking effort: Bikers and bunnies combine for charity Easter runs

Thousands of motorcyclists dressed up and donated money and time to worthwhile causes over the Easter weekend in a series of egg runs.

One such event was the ride out for The Children’s Hospital Charity in Sheffield, which was led by double World Superbike champion James Toseland for the 20th time. Total donations are still being calculated, but more than 760 bikers took part.

In the 20 years of Toseland’s involvement, the event has raised £70,000+ for The Children’s Hospital Charity, with this year’s figure generating funds for an arts programme which aims to improve well-being, emotional and mental health for patients, families, and staff.

“We are so grateful to everyone involved in the Egg Run this year,” Head of the Arts Programme, Jade Richardson, said. “Workshops offer patients and staff the opportunity to engage in something creative, different, and meaningful.

“Alongside workshops we also have professional musicians join us for performances, helping to make the clinical environment more exciting.”

The Durham Easter Egg Run, meanwhile, attracted 800 riders, who visited Darlington Memorial Hospital and the University Hospital of North Durham. Bikers brought easter eggs to give to young patients and raised around £2500 in donations.

“The kids get a smile on their face but also the route that we take is just lined with people coming out of their houses and waving with flags,” Organiser, Tony Hudspith, told MCN.
