Dorset’s DocBike run, which raises money for the injury prevention charity that places a trauma doctors and critical care paramedics on two wheels, is now accepting registrations for their annual fundraiser.

Last year’s event raised over £8000 and saw over 400 motorcyclists ride in the charity’s only cash raising event in Dorset with organisers hoping for a similar turnout this year. This year’s event will take place on Sunday, September 24.

Dr Ian Mew, Co-Founder and Trustee of the charity said: “This is our big event for DocBike each year and the support of the local motorcycling community means so much to us.

“We’re dedicated to being there for anyone who needs emergency critical care, but we’re just as passionate about helping bikers to avoid being in a crash by giving them tips and tricks to avoid being knocked off of their bikes.”

This year’s event will again give riders two routes to choose from. The first a 30-mile route from Alderholt to Henstridge Airfield, and the second, a 40-mile route from West Bay Esplanade in Bridport, also finishing at Henstridge Airfield. Both rides start between 8.30am and 10am, with all participants needing to sign in by 10am.

Dr Mew added: “Particular thanks to Geoff the airfield owner at Henstridge, for allowing us to use his venue and also Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance for their ongoing support.”

Registration costs £10 per person and includes entry into the grand raffle and DocBike hope that riders taking part will raise additional funds by making a donation when registering, raising a minimum of £25 through sponsorship, or by purchasing additional raffle tickets.

The charity receives no direct funding from the government and relies fundraising for support. It costs over £60,000 to put a new DocBike on the road with critical care medical equipment, to help save motorcyclists’ lives. For more, go to docbike.org
