Indian Summer: Custom Sport Chief built for bassist of the Stereophonics

1 of 3

Indian Motorcycle and Krazy Horse custom house have teamed up to produce a one-off Sport Chief cruiser for the bassist of the Stereophonics, Richard Jones.

Called Rage, the bike has been produced using a number of traditional fabrication methods, and a number of design elements chosen by Richard who has been riding bikes since he was 11 years old.

“It’s one of my passions, being on the bike. It takes me to a totally different place,” Jones said. “Paul Beamish (MD of Krazy Horse) asked if I had any imagery that they could use in the bike design. And it instantly came to me, I have tattoo designs on my plectrums for every tour we do, and I selected an Ace of Spades design death card.”

Krazy Horse have been building custom bikes for 28 years and incorporated both hand sand-cast detail elements and hand beaten panels into this latest build.

“It was really great to find out that this design would be traditionally hand sand cast and that I’d get to see this happen,” the bassist continued. “For me, being at the foundry took me way back to when I was a teenager because I used to work in the steelworks in South Wales.

“It’s quite inspiring knowing that people still have these traditional techniques and working with Paul and his team has been brilliant.”

Other features of the bike also include a bespoke belly pan, which is said to wrap around the front tyre like a drag bike. It was produced using hand tooling by Adrian Smith of Buckland Automotive Engineering and comes finished in an understated gloss black.

OJZ Engineering also produced a bespoke two-into-one performance exhaust featuring neat minimal welds and an aggressive megaphone exit.

“I am blown away by how this bike has come together in such a short time,” Paul Beamish said. “We could not have done it without our fantastic partners who always manage to pull it out of the bag for us. And as ever the dedication of the Krazy Horse Team has made it possible.”

Based on the £19,995 Indian Sport Chief revealed earlier this year, the bike is powered by an 1890cc air-cooled Thunderstroke 116 V-twin engine – producing 120lbft at 3200rpm as standard.
