The next generation of young British racing talent was treated to a media masterclass late last month, as the Ride to the FIM Awards series of events headed to the MXGP at Winchester’s Matterley Basin.

Taking place ahead of this year’s FIM Awards ceremony in Liverpool, in December, riders aged 7-16 attended a workshop to learn from a panel of motocross industry experts, including British MXGP rider Ben Watson and former MCN editor Adam Duckworth, on how to present themselves to the media.

Topics discussed during the event on September 23 included managing emotional tension and what to post on social media, as well as the awareness of being ambassadors for their sport.

Addressing the youngsters, FIM Motocross Commission Director Antonio Alia Portela commented: “I recommend that you get the best you can from this workshop, always trying to express your personality, in a professional and positive way, enhancing your commitment and passion.”

The workshop forms part of a series of special events from the FIM (Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme) – world motorcycle sport’s governing body – in the lead up to the main awards ceremony taking place on December 2. It is the first time the prestigious event will be held in the UK.
