Getting intimate with your drive chain may seem like a bit of a geeky exercise, but I promise you, you’ll reap the benefits in terms of cost.

Keeping on top of cleaning, lubing and adjusting will massively extend the life of your chain, thus delaying the cost
of replacement.

Although it seems logical to do your chain when you wash the rest of your bike, I prefer to treat chain maintenance as a completely separate job, as it needs its own routine as detailed in this How To.

Plus, it really needs to be performed more frequently than your general bike cleaning regime…
