World’s first ride of new Yamaha TDM900

Published: 11 November 2001

Second update: 3.05pm, November 12: MCN’s Adam Morrissey has had more time to get used to the feel of the new Yamaha TDM900 now. Here’s what he has to say.

" The brakes are very powerful, but then, they are straight off the R1. They are really, really strong.

" The suspension is relatively soft, if you’re used to a sports bike, but that means you get a really good feel for the braking.

" And once you are used to the relative softness, you find the chassis is quite precise. We’ve been riding on some very tight mountain roads here in Fuertaventura, so it’s been a good test. It’s sunny and hot. "

Morrissey says there are three colour schemes available, silver, black and yellow-black-silver. The bike is due to cost £6300 in the UK.

First update, 1.10pm, November 12: We’re in the sunny Canary Islands for the launch test of Yamaha’s new TDM900.

MCN’s Adam Morrissey has had a short ride and reports: " It’s a very flickable bike, easy to get the pegs down on without drama.

" I was expecting a little more from the engine. The mid-range is stronger than the old bike, but I was expecting more of a V-twin punch. "

Morrissey’s comments come after a morning riding the roads of the volcanic Spanish island of Fuertaventura.
