'Fake' Bimota HB4 track day bike is real

Rumours of a semi-official track-day-only HB4 costing a whopping £146,500 circulated last month after an advert for just such a bike was posted on a German website.

Bimota was quick to dismiss the ad as a fake, but MCN has discovered it IS in negotiations with a German dealer to offer very top-end HB4s to rich track day enthusiasts.

The bikes are slated to be fitted with a World Supersport-spec CBR600 engine putting out 140bhp, full Moto2 telemetry and superior Motec ECUs. They’ll be prepared by German Bimota dealer and race tuner HPC-Power.

Boss Denis Hertrampf says: “I ordered a chassis from Bimota with the intention of racing in Moto2 next year.

“But once I had it I realised there would be demand for such a beautiful, exclusive machine as a track day bike. I think it’s one of the most beautiful bikes I’ve ever seen”.

He says he’s already taken orders for two bikes, and plans to build 5-10 per year, with power/rebuild frequency balance and handling set-up tuned for each client.

It remains to be seen whether Bimota will agree to supply HPC-Power with more bikes.
