Yamaha have taken the wraps off the FZ25, a single-cylinder naked bike which the firm hopes will push Yamaha to the top of the competitive small-capacity naked bike class in India.

The engine in the new model is based heavily on the same engine used in some Japanese models, but has been tuned specifically for Indian traffic conditions. It produces 20.6bhp at 8000rpm and 14.75ftlb of torque at 6000rpm.

The new engine uses Yamaha’s Blue Core technology to improve fuel efficiency and make the engine more environmentally friendly.

The new FZ25 comes with LED headlight, LCD dash and wheels based on those from the popular MT series. The FZ25 will be available in February in Ballistic Blue, Warrior White and Knight Black.

Mr Masaki Asano, Managing Director of Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt. Ltd, said: “The FZ series has been a great performer ever since its launch in 2008. [The] FZ Series performed very well in India and crossed 1.3 Million sales since its launch and has developed as a strong brand in the deluxe segment.

“Now the deluxe segment customers can step up to a premium model and Yamaha is very happy to offer an option which is armed with more power, impressive new features, sporty look and aggressive styling. [The] introduction of new FZ25 model in FZ family will surely appeal to today’s confident generation. With this launch, Yamaha will line up a compact FZ series only to enhance its solid brand image in performance motorcycles.”
