Is there a new Speed Triple on the way?

As if a new Tiger 1200 and 800, and the Speedmaster and Bobber Black weren’t enough, our spy photographer also grabbed shots of what could be an updated Speed Triple. The styling is so close to the recently updated S and R models, that it’s impossible to be certain that it’s a new bike – but it does appear to be at least a tangible update.

TOP STORIES

First spied on track back in June, our photographer noted that it “sounded totally different, as if it had a higher rev limit”. Seen with both reprofiled standard and Arrow cans, and different coloured subframes, it suggests that the two-model S/R range remains. Also new is the addition of the same TFT dash used on the Street Triple, and which appears fitted to the new Tiger 1200, replacing the current bike’s analogue/LCD mix. Also new are the 5-spoke wheels, which replace the 10 Y-spoke rims of the current model.

As so much appears very similar to the current bike, it’s impossible to tell if this is an early development mule using the current bike to test upgrades, or if it’s an all-new model waiting in the wings – perhaps the reports of a change in engine note are the biggest clue. However, our moles suggest that there’s no plan to reveal a new Speed Triple at this year’s Milan show – so don’t hold your breath just yet.
