Just when you thought Yamaha’s range of Ténéré 700s couldn’t get any bigger, the Japanese giant has just unveiled the sixth addition to the adventure bike group: the new 2024 Ténéré 700 Explore.

Having only unveiled the fifth Extreme off-road version in the middle of October, the latest version is intended to be a more long-distance orientated incarnation, with added accessibility and comfort.

To achieve the this, mainly by way of a lower seat height to enable more riders to reach the ground more easily and also to aid low speed control, the bike’s KYB suspension front 43mm forks and remotely adjustable rear shock have had a 20mm reduction in wheel travel.

This is now down to 190mm at the front and 180mm at the rear. The result is a seat height now of just 860mm, 15mm lower than the standard bike.

On top of this the front and rear spring rates have also been increased slightly to give more confident handling when the bike is fully loaded with a passenger and/or luggage.

What’s more, the new Explore variant has been given a new screen which is both higher and wider than standard, giving a 50% larger surface area for claimed improved comfort, especially during adverse weather.

It doesn’t end there either. As with other long-distance tourers in Yamaha’s line-up, such as the Tracer 7 and 9 GT models, the new Ténéré 700 Explore comes as standard fitted with pannier racks suitable for soft or hard luggage (although the panniers themselves are extra cost options).

As before, a quickshifter is standard too, while a range of touring accessories will be available, some via a series of themed ‘packs’, to enhance its touring abilities.

The new Explore becomes the sixth member of the current 2024 Ténéré 700 line-up, ranging from the £10,110 base Ténéré to the £13,000 World Rally.
