French firm Mash Motorcycles have revealed a new air-cooled four stroke retro bike called the Scrambler 50, complete with a four-speed gearbox, designed to give youngsters a first taste of bike ownership.

With a UK price of £2299 including VAT, it comes available in brown or black and features a 49cc engine fed by a chunky 14-litre tank producing an AM licence compliant 2.8bhp at 7000rpm.

Mash are claiming an impressive 176.6mpg from the frugal motor, meaning you could theoretically do 543.7 miles on one tank of E10. There’s also fuel injection and a kick start also included for some old school charm.

To make things as easy as possible for those new to motorcycling, the bike has a ready to ride weight of 105kg, with a low seat height of 800mm. You also get basic drum brakes at either end to help keep the costs down, plus non-adjustable standard forks and basic twin shocks at the rear.

Mash machines are built in China, with the price quoted here not including on the road costs. The Scrambler will join the X-Ride and Fifty as a third air-cooled 50cc model in their line-up.

Arriving in dealers this month, it gets a three-year parts and labour warranty, with unlimited mileage.
