To infinity and beyond | Twin tanked Rieju Aventura offers continent crushing 600 mile range

The ever-expanding mid-sized adventure segment has grown again. At the 2023 EICMA show, Spanish manufacturer Rieju unveiled their latest offering to the world; the Aventura 500 – and it comes with an incredible 1000km claimed fuel range!

At face value, a circa 47bhp parallel twin all-rounder may not sound headline grabbing. But the figure that draws attention here is not the power, but that range.

Thanks to a twin-tank set up, there’s a total volume of 40 litres to play with, meaning the Aventura is built to cover more distance than any other production bike between fill-ups ever. Period.

The bike’s 500cc motor is made by Loncin, a well-established manufacturer who has built small engines for BMW since 2007. It is a direct copy of Honda’s tried and tested 500cc parallel twin used in the CB range.

Sharing all the same architecture as an established motor should provide solid mechanical reliability from the engine, although it is unproven how well the rest of the bike will hold up to long term use.

The Rieju brand has almost a century of history behind it, starting out as a Spanish bicycle manufacturer, before moving into moped production in 1945.

Despite this European ancestry, the Aventura is decidedly Chinese in origin, appearing to be a direct copy of the Chongqing Hengjian HJ500-8, a Chinese market only adventure bike.

Rieju’s long-range tourer is shod with fully adjustable suspension, offering 190mm of travel at both ends. It provides tunable compression, rebound and preload – impressive spec given the price although slightly less travel than some competitors.

Seat height is reasonably low at 840mm – just 10mm taller than the Honda NX500 which it goes up against. Only two colour choices are available; red or grey, and either option will accompany gold spoked tubeless wheels configured in off-road ready an 18/21-inch combination

Dry weight is quoted as 190kg. Whilst this figure is yet to be confirmed it seems impressive given the standard fitment of an aluminium sump guard, engine bars, aluminium backed handguards, centre stand and radiator guard.

Rieju claim bikes should be available in the UK within the coming few weeks and prices are set at £7499. With 65 official dealers to call up across the UK, there is an established, growing support network available to customers and with its proven engine, the Aventura could be a hell of a lot of bike for the money.
