Yamaha have revealed their sportiest-ever TMAX 560 for 2020, gaining a larger-capacity Euro5-compliant engine, alongside revised styling and tweaked suspension for a more engaging riding experience.
Launched in 2001, the seventh generation of Yamaha’s premium maxi scooter will be available in two flavours, with the standard TMAX now joined by a more premium Tech MAX model.
Alongside revised styling, the latest machine boasts a claimed 3.5% increase in maximum power and 6% gain in torque, thanks to a new two-cylinder 560cc twist-and-go drivetrain, which replaces the previous bike’s 530cc lump.
Despite increasing the engine’s capacity by 6%, Yamaha claim the changes have added just 1% of additional weight, with the unit boosting acceleration and acting as a stressed member within the aluminium twin-spar frame for greater handling.
This is further complemented by a revised suspension set-up, with the 41mm USD forks and monocross, single-shock rear end being tweaked to offer more of a ‘light and agile handling character.’
As before, the new bike also gets two riding modes, which offer either a softer power delivery for urban riding, or a more responsive map for sportier rides. Opting for this mode will also allow riders to enjoy the sound of the bike’s parallel twin to the fullest, thanks to improved acoustics from the revised exhaust system and intake.
Away from performance, the TMAX has also been given a slight facelift, with all but the main fairing and under cowl getting changes. Now sporting a much sharper, slimmer look, the ‘MAX has lost none of its class-leading practicality, with the lockable underseat storage still capable of housing either one full-face or two open face jet helmets.
The TMAX still comes with a lockable centre stand for extra security.
Yamaha TMAX Tech MAX
For those riders wanting something extra from their maxi scooter, the Tech MAX features everything found on the standard model, as well as access to Yamaha's subscription ‘MyTMAX Connect’ app, which allows owners to track their bike via GPS.
Like the previous top spec DX model, the more premium machine also benefits from an electronically-adjustable screen, cruise control, heated grips, heated seat and a preload adjustable rear shock.
