Hizzy: "I’d beat Joey’s TT record easily"

1 of 1

In our live web chat on Thursday Steve Hislop said that if he had continued to race at the Isle of Man he would have overtaken Joey Dunlop’s record of 26 TT victories.

In a reply to a question from sidewaysbiker on whether anyone could ever beat his achievements, Hislop said: ” If I had continued at the TT I would have beaten Joey’s record easily. He was a fantastic rider, but he was still beatable. Just ask Foggy or myself ”

The MonsterMob Ducati rider also predicted the demise of the historic festival. Hislop said: ” The TT is slowly losing its place in international racing and I think the big bikes have almost outgrown the roads. Attitudes to safety are steering the stars to short circuit racing. ”

Not everyone agrees with Hizzy though.

In our Britsh Superbikes talk bords two stroke Scotty says: ” If Joey was still here he(Hislop) definitely would not have beaten him, nor would he start boasting about what he could do, as Joey still be out wining races in the way only he could. So personally I don’t think it’s either appropriate for him to be making those comments, or very respectful. What made him come out with it? ”

And funkie51 added ” Words are easy, doing is another thing. Hizzy did win 11TTs. quite impressive. But he should have carried on if he thought he could do it. ”

But martinkilpatrick pointed out: ” He wasn’t boasting or blasting Joey. He was ASKED the question and he just answered. What’s wrong with that? What the hell are you talking about lack of respect to Joey? If he thinks he can beat him so what, it’s not as if he said Joey’s crap did he? ”
