Reed and Carmichael dominate AMA Supercross

1 of 1

Ricky Carmichael and Australian Chad Reed continue to dominate this year’s American supercross championships after the latest round at New Orleans.

Carmichael, who won last year’s supercross and outdoor national titles for Kawasaki before switching to Honda during the winter, wrapped up his fourth successive 250 class victory with his CR250 on Saturday night.

Stephane Roncada was second on a Kawasaki while another Frenchman, Yamaha’s David Vuilleman, bravely rode to third place.

He was still suffering from a shoulder injury sustained in a pre-event publicity photo-shoot prior to last weekend’s Daytona race. The injury forced him out of the Florida race and he now trails Carmichael in the standings by ten points, 209-199.

Reed won his fifth successive race in the 124 East series. The Yamaha 250 four-stroke rider had his toughest race of the year with 125 world champion Grant Langston pressuring him all the way until a backmarker got in the way of the KTM, slowing the South African to a virtual stop.

Last year’s 125 champion Mike Brown could only finished fourth on the Pro Circuit Kawasaki behind Yamaha’s Larry Ward, the oldest man in the race at 32. Brown is now 23 points adrift in the championship.
