Oulton Park is the scenic venue for round seven and eight of the MCN-backed British Superbike series on May 6. Series leader Steve Hislop spoke to MCN and told us why he such a fan of this Cheshire circuit.

For the full story on Steve Hislop’s look ahead to Oulton, don’t miss the new issue of MCN, out May 1.

Hislop said: ” It’s my favourite British circuit because it’s one of the old-fashioned proper rider circuits. It’s a genuine challenge – the riders don’t just race each other, they have to beat the circuit as well.

” It’s one of those circuits where a real good rider can eke out a little bit of time on each corner. ”

He added: ” Oulton is fantastic for spectators. It’s an action-packed circuit and you get an excellent view of the track.

” Loads of people also stand at Lodge in the hope of seeing an incident. The last lap is a real brain rush for many racers, who fight tooth and nail for the lead on that last corner. Many notorious incidents have happened here. ”

A word of warning though; watch your those speed on the motorways and main roads, the police are razor-sharp on race days and the roads leading up to the circuit bristle with mobile speed traps.

You can also keep the missus happy by making a family day of it – there will be an RAF display, stilt walkers and unicyclists, Mr Magic children’s entertainer, bouncy castles and children’s fairground rides.

Tickets on the gate cost £20, which includes entry to both Superpole on Sunday and the racing on Monday.
