Steve Hislop leaves championship open at Mallory

The MCN British Superbike championship is set for a final-round showdown at Donington.

Steve Hislop was only capable of a fifth and sixth as he watched championship rival Sean Emmett close the points advantage with two second places.

The first race eventually went to fellow Yamaha rider Steve Plater. He was able to take the win from Emmett and Renegade Ducati teammates Michael Rutter and Shane Byrne.

Glen Richards stole a creditable fifth, ahead of Hislop, Karl Harris, John Crawford, Simon Crafar and Dean Ellison.

The second race flipped the podium standings, with Michael Rutter taking the win. Sean Emmett was again second, with Steve Plater rounding off a great weekend with another third.

Hislop improved to take fifth behind ‘Shakey’ Byrne, but ahead of Glen Richards and John Reynolds.

Hizzy still leads the championship, but the results this week means a nervous wait to find out if he can finally beat the bad luck which dogged him over the last two years.
