Andrew Sennett, Mallory Park, April 27

Rider: Andrew Sennett, Bike: Aprilia RS125, Club: New Era Superclub

Andrew Sennett the motorcycle roadracer from Terrington St. Clement competed in round one of the New Era Superclub Championship at Mallory Park on Sunday.

Still without a new machine Andrew was forced again to ride his older RS125 Honda at the Leicestershire venue.

Although having won the Championship last year Andrew was faced with two new formats introduced this season to the series. These are timed qualifying and a combined race with 250cc GP machines. The weather was very unsettled but luckily all qualifying and both races managed to be run in dry conditions.

Qualifying was held over a ten-minute session and Andrew surprised the organisers by posting a fastest lap of 57.2 seconds to take pole position ahead of 125 and 250 machines alike.

Starting race 1 from pole saw him share the front row with three 250 machines and when the lights changed the 250s with 80+bhp outdragged Andrew on his 42bhp 125 towards the first corner but by the end of the lap Andrew was in second place. With some spirited riding against the much more powerful machines Andrew harassed the leader for all of the 10 lap race and finished 2nd on the road with the closest 125 machine some 21 seconds behind in 7th place.

Race 2 was a carbon copy of the first with Andrew taking the chequered flag first in his class and second on the road again but this time he took the lap record down to 56 seconds.

Plans are hopeful to obtain a new machine for Andrew to compete on in the MRO/British Championship.
