Stewart wins US title

James Stewart won his second AMA 125cc motocross title at Binghampton on Sunday, equalling Ricky Carmichael’s record of 26 wins in the series.

Stewart too the race win ahead of the Suzukis of Broc Hepler and Davi Millsaps to clinch the title from Hepler and Mike Brown. And he still has races left in the season to break the all-time record, before moving up to the 250cc class in 2005.

Carmichael, meanwhile, is on course to complete an unbeaten season in the 250cc for the second time in his career, with just two more victories needed.

Winning both motos comfortably at the Binghampton round means he only needs a 19th place in either race at the next round in two weeks to clicnh a record fifth AMA 250cc Motocross championship.

Chad Reed took second at Binghampton with Sebastien Tortelli third.
