ACU Academy and UK1 signings head for Spain

The ACU is taking 12 of its Academy racers to Spain for pre-season testing, alongside UK1 Racing new signings Christian Elkin and Tommy Bridewell.

Elkin was the highest-placed Brit in the Spanish 125cc Championship in 2003, having taken the runner-up spot in the 2002 British Championship. Meanwhile Bridewell claimed 4th overall in the British series last year at just 14 years old.

The 14 riders will spend three days at the Cartagena circuit, testing either Honda GP125 or Aprilia RS125 Superteen bikes, with costs funded by the Academy. They’ll also get instruction from regular coach and former racer Clive Horton, who will be joined by Foggy Petronas team boss Nigel Bosworth. The Uk1 team is hoping for some extra help and advice from Ron Haslam.

Back in Britain, the UK1 Racing team will start its British Championship campaign on March 28 at Silverstone, while the Academy riders will look forward to a test day at Cadwell Park on April 1.

If you know a young rider who could earn a place at the ACU Academy, phone 01788-566415 for information on eligibility.
