Stars at Hawkstone MX

Plenty of big names will be racing at the pre-season International Motocross meeting at Hawkstone Park on March 5 and 6, 2005.

Eight-times World Champion Stefan Everts will be favourite in the MX1 class (up to 450cc). He’ll be putting his Rinaldi Yamaha up against the Suzuki of five times champion Joel Smets. Smets makes his return after missing much of 2004 due to injury and a serious illness. The reigning British Motorcross champion, Josh Coppins will also be a pre-race favourite, but former British champions Gordon Crockard and Paul Cooper will also be in contention.

In the MX2 class ( 125cc two-strokes/ 250cc four-strokes) former American Motorcross champion Mike Brown will head the field. Cedric Melotte, Carl Nunn and British Under 21 riders Graeme Gowland and Lewis Gregory will also compete against American teen stars the Alessi brothers.

Tickets are £20 per adult, under 12’s go free and camping is available from Saturday March 5 at a cost of £10 per vehicle. Gates open at 7am, and Hawkstone Park s located in Shropshire. To see a local map, click here.
