Superbike National dates

The second annual Superbike Grand National invitational race at Castle Combe will take place on July 30-31,2005, after a change in the British Superbike calendar.

The non-championship was originally scheduled to round off the season, but alteraions to the MotoGP and BSB series meant it would have occurred a week before the final round of the BSB championship.

“We didn’t think it fair nor feasible for teams to compete a week before the final round, ” said Castle Combe’s Rodney Gooch. ” By moving to a mid-summer date we can perhaps benefit from decent weather. Not only that, but the new date is in the middle of a six week break in BSB, so it’s an ideal opportunity for some teams to benefit from extra track time.”

Last year’s meeting almost 30,000 people watched Sean Emmett win the event on the ETI Ducati, and circuit management are in the process of talking to all the championship teams to encourage a strong entry. There are also seperate awards for the Privateers Cup and for non-factory independant teams, and the meeting will be run by the New Era Motorcycle Club with a full championship support programme.
