Everts wins again

Stefan Everts won his his third consecutive race of the MX1 World Championship at Agueda in Portugal on Sunday, taking his career total to a massive 90 wins.

The meeting had been affected by hard rain throughout Friday and Saturday, limiting practice to conserve the track. Everts qualified in third won a race-long battle with Sebastien Tortelli in the first race, finally overtaking by leaping the Frenchman as Tortelli crested a jump-on-the-turn on lap ten. Despite pressure from Tortelli, Everts was able to take the win as the French rider made a mistake on the last lap and crashed, remounting to take second from Ken De Dycker in third. Britain’s James Noble took eighth, with Sword tenth, and Gordon Crockard 12th.

The second race saw Everts move up from fourth place on the first lap to take the lead from Tortelli, just before the Frenchman crashed and dislocated his hip. Everts won at a comfortable distance from KTM’s Jonathan Barragan, with Kevin Strijbos third on the Suzuki. Britain’s Julien Bill took seventh, Gordon Crockard 13th and Stephen sword 18th.

In MX2, Antonio Cairoli won the first race from Christophe Pourcel and Tyler Rattray. Britain’s Carl Nunn was fifth, with Billy Mackenzie sixth and Tommy Searle 10th. The second race saw a win for Rattray from Pourcel and Alessio Chiodi. Mackenzie again took sixth, Searle seventh, and Nunn eighth.
