Get set for Oulton BSB

The British Superbike championship arrives at Outlon Park in Cheshire this weekend for the fourth round of the 2006 championship. Racing takes place on Bank Holiday Monday, May 1, with plenty or riders looking to topple championship leader Gregorio Lavilla.

We’re interviewing Gregorio on Friday afternoon. You’ll be able to listen to that exclusively on this website from Tuesday morning (May 2).

Lavilla has dominated the season so far, winning five out of six races. His Airwaves Ducati team-mate, Leon Haslam, has followed him in second place four times, but will be looking to challenge as he recovers from a first round crash at Brands Hatch.
HM Plant Honda rider Ryuichi Kiyonari is the other race winner in 2006, with one wet Brands Hatch victory, and he’ll be keen to close the title gap on Lavilla as soon as possible, as will team-mate Karl Harris.
And there could be upsets as ex-MotoGP star Shane Byrne lapped fastest in the official BSB test at Oulton Park last week, having twice carved through the field at Thruxton due to starting penalties. Jonathan Rea also had a fine Thurxton round, battling hard against Byrne, amongst others. And Australian Dean Thomas is confident of doing well at one of his favourite circuits, although Hawk Kawasaki team-mate Craig Coxhell will be riding despite still recovering from a crash at the Donington Park round.
Practice for the Oulton Park round begins at 9:00am on Saturday, April 29, 2006, with the BSB riders going onto the circuit at 10.20am. Qualifying is at 3:05pm on Sunday, April 30, with the first race at 2pm on Monday May 1, and the second race at 4.35pm. You’ll be able to follow all the action from BSB and the Turkish MotoGP round on this site throughout the weekend.
Oulton Park is located in little Budworth, Tarporley, Cheshire, CW6 9BW. Tickets are available on the gate, and for the latest weather news, click here (external site). For the latest updates on roadworks and accidents, click here (external site).
