Rider dies at Cadwell

A young rider died and a marshal and another rider were injured in separate incidents at the weekends racing at Cadwell Park.

Ashley Martin (18) from Shiptonthorpe died in hospital after sustaining serious head injuries in a crash at the Gooseneck during Sunday qualifying for the British Supersport Championship.

He was unconscious at the scene of the crash and, after being treated by medical staff was transferred to Leeds General Infirmary by air ambulance but passed away during the night.

The air ambulance had also been scrambled earlier in the day to take Kelvin Reilly to Lincoln Hospital when he suffered a suspected broken ribs, a punctured lung and dislocated pelvis after a crash in the National Superstock practice.
