2006 TT loses one race

The 2006 TT race schedule has been released with one less race than in previous years.

For 2006, the second Supersport race has been ditched due to concerns about safety and the mechanical stresses caused by running two events. Due to the amount of retirements in the second event in 2005, the decision has been taken to reinvest the prize fund for this race into the overall start and prize money fund. There are provisional plans to introduce another class in 2007.

The first race will be the Superbike race on Saturday June 3rd. , followed by the Superstocks on Monday, June 5th, which will be a four lap event, rather than three laps in previous years. The Ise of Man TT will close with the six-lap Senior which is open to all solo classes, and will be offering prize money to the first three 600cc bikes to finish.

More practice time will be available for the 37 3/4 mile Mountain Circuit, begining on Satruday may 27 with speed controlled sighting laps for newcomers, followed by sessions for other entrants.

"This year every effort has been made to find out what our stakeholders want from the event," said TT Committe Chairman and Isle of Man Tourism Minister David Cretney. " Safety always has to be our number one concern, so we need to ensure competitors have enough practice time, especially our newcomers. We are confident we have found the right balance with this new schedule which has been warmly redeived by the majroity of teams and competitors."

"In addition, we will soon be announcing details of key entertainment events. the new race schedule allows us to do this and TT 2006 will build up to a fitting climax with some special events planed for the end of Race Week and Senior Race Day in particular."
