Carmichael extends lead

It’s back to business as usual in the AMA Supercross championship. Reigning champion Ricky Carmichael took his second successive win at the third round in Anaheim, California on Saturday, January 21, 2006.

The Suzuki rider started the final in fifth place, but was able to move up and catch early leader James Stewart. When Stewart fell with just two laps to go, he was able to move into the lead.

Carmichael now leads the AMA championship by four points, and trails Stewart in the World Series by a single point.

“It’s alwasy good to win, but would have rpeferred to have beaten James fair and square rather than take the win because he crashed. I’m more excited about how fun and exciting the race was – that is what we need,” said Carmichael.

In the Lites class, Grant Langston took the win from Andrew Short and Nate Ramsay. Langston and Short are now tied for the championship lead.
