Dakar: Stage 11

1 of 1

Racing has resumed in the Dakar, following the cancellation of stage 10 due to the death of Australian Andy Caldecott.

Stage 11 saw 100 riders tackling the challenging tracks in Mali, with the added difficulties of riding on the very slippery red volcanic gravel, forests, savannahs, and avoiding wandering wild animals.

Although the stage was won by KTM rider Alain Duclos, it was Marc Coma who extended his overall lead of the rally with a second place. With a time of three hours and 18 minutes, Coma extended his advantage by over 11 minutes over Cyril Despres. Despres now trails by 34 minutes overall, following a ninth place on the Mali stage.

Britain’s Mick Extance finished the stage in 49th place, with BMW riders Si Pavey and Nick Plumb in 93rd, and 94th following the retirement of team-mates Charley Boorman and Matt Hall. They finished just behind fellow Brits Clive Town and Patsy Quick.

Overall Mick Extance is in an outstanding 28th. Nick Plumb is in 86th, Pavey in 93rd, Town in 95th and Quick in 96th.
