Dakar: Stage 12

The 12th stage of the Dakar rally ran from Bamako to Labe, with a special stage beginning as the riders crossed the border between Mali and Guinea.

In the morning, Carlo De Gavardo lost over 30 minutes following a fall during a river crossing, as did Pal Ullelvalseter. Giovanni Sala meanwhile lost 40 minutes repairing a bent brake disc.

This was before the start of the special test, running over 368 kilometres. Cyril Despres managed to take the stage win, but only by two minutes from overall leader Marc Coma. Fellow KTM riders Chris Blais and De Azevedo finished third and fourth.

Britain’s Mick Extance finished in 27th place on the stage for Honda. Si Pavey took 66th, with Nick Plumb 72nd. Extance is now 26th overall, with Plumb in 72nd and Pavey in 76th.
