No speed limits for IoM

Plans to introduce a blanket national speed limit in the Isle of Man have been abandoned – and Manx authorities have said they will not be re-considering a limit in the foreseeable future.

Although there are speed limits through built-up areas and on hazardous stretches of road on the Island, there are none outside of these areas – and that’s been a huge attraction for TT visitors over the years.

But the thrill of riding the famous TT course at speeds which would see riders banned on the UK mainland looked to be under threat recently as the Manx authorities considered introducing an Island-wide speed limit.

Local residents were asked to complete forms voicing their support or opposition to the proposal and of the 13,600 forms completed, 54% voted no to a 70mph blanket limit.
