Lavilla is Fantasy winner

Andy Whittam is the new overall leader of the MCN Fantasy Road Race championship after moving up to an impressive 240 points after the weekend’s season-opening British Superbike and MotoGP races.

His selections included Capirossi and Pedrosa, Thomas and Mason.

He’s now ahead of Carl Squires in second (Capirossi and Stoner, Harris and Beaumont).

The top two manage to lead the way despite doing without the services of Gregorio Lavilla – the highest scoring rider in Fantasy Road Racing last weekend (see below).

The first MotoGP weekend was dominated by Loris Capirossi. The Italian scored five extra FRR points for starting from the front of the grid after smashing the lap record in qualifying to bag himself five Road Race points. Ducati team-mate Sete Gibernau was second.

Capirossi showed no let-up when it came to the race either, taking the victory and 25 Fantasy Road Race points, making it a very profitable 30 point opening weekend for those who picked him.

Debutant Daniel Pedrosa’s second place earned him 21 Fantasy Road Race points, while World Champion Valentino Rossi disappointingly managed only two Fantasy Road Race points in the whole weekend.

British Superbikes’ opening two races offered varying results. Defending champion Gregorio Lavilla raced ahead in the Fantasy Road Race stakes, scoring a weekend total of 46 points after taking pole in Saturday’s qualifying, first in the opening race on Sunday, and third in the final race of the day.

Ryuichi Kiyonari took his total to 38 Road Race points after he was first across the line in the second race. Karl Harris took 34 points over the weekend, while Leon Haslam, after crashing out in the first race, recovered to finish second in the later race, and take 24 Fantasy Road Race points for the weekend.
