Kiyo's season begins

Reigning British Superbike champ Ryuichi Kiyonari jets back to Japan this week as he gets his title defence underway testing his new 2007-spec HRC Honda Fireblade.

Kiyo said: “New bike is not so different. Many small changes. Maybe just different mapping to give even smoother power delivery to make easier to ride.”

The test at Motegi is the first of what promises to be the usual methodical yet gruelling pre-season testing programme for the team.

Kiyo said: “We did a lot of testing last year but we did not get such good weather. But I like to test. Normally BSB race meetings we get 50 minute sessions to test. Pre-season we get all day riding at track.

“It’s busy and it gives us chance to try many things but also it is much more relaxed than the pressures of a race weekend.”
