Robbie Stewart wins Dorna Academy Cup

Robbie Stewart is this year’s winner of the Dorna Academy Cup which rewards the Perthshire schoolboy racer’s determined performances with a career enhancing visit to the Red Bull MotoGP Academy in Spain.

Riding the KRP Honda in the highly competitive British 125GP Championship, the 15-year-old from the Bridge of Earn has won four races outright, beating considerably more experienced riders, and this has taken him to the fore in the Academy Cup, which is designed to foster the development of talented young riders by giving them competition amid a professional environment.

The Academy Cup, which is backed by Dorna UK, the commercial rights holders of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship, is a race within a race, for riders aged between 14 and 16 years, in British 125GP action and Robbie Stewart has won the Cup category on six occasions.

He races for the final time in the British championship at Brands Hatch on Sunday October 14, 2007, and then will enjoy the winner’s prize which is a weekend at the MotoGP Academy – funded by Dorna, the rights holders to World MotoGP, to develop upcoming young talent towards a career in Grand Prix racing.

The Red Bull MotoGP Academy is based in Barcelona, and operates under the expert guidance of former Grand Prix rider Alberto Puig.
