Tommy Searle stars in British Supercross season opener

Imagine off road motorcycles soaring through the air, glamorous pom pom girls, flashing lights and spectacular racing. Welcome to the British Supercross season, which kicks off this weekend with a visit to the Sheffield Arena for its 12th consecutive year.

Sheffield Arena will be transformed into a six-lane dirt track to host the spectacular races and Britain’s hopes will rest on MX2 GP runner-up Tommy Searle who will make a guest appearance before heading off to race in America next year.

Other stars including Americans Jeff Alesi, Mike Brown, former World Supercross Champion Heath Voss and Jason Thomas will take on British supercross regulars including Carl Nunn, Gordon Crockard, Ashley Greedy and Brad Anderson on their home soil.

Alessi looks to go into the event as favourite having taken the SX1 class at Sheffield last year. He was team-mate to Scot Billy Mackenzie in the motocross GPs this season. A record number of teams have already signed up for the four event series and as well as the Americans, five-time French Supercross champion Ben Coisy.

The format is similar to motocross with SX1 and SX2 classes, except that it’s all indoors.

The British Supercross Championship will be at Sheffield Arena on Saturday, October 25, 2008. Tickets cost £35 and £25 with £10 concession for OAPs and children under 12. Contact: www.fwsx or 0114 256 56 56 (tickets)
