Sunflower races shine in rain

1 of 2

The sunflower races went down a treat this year and despite the bad weather everyone present had a great time.

Upon arriving at the track it was easy to see why this was originally used as an airfield!! the racing was brlliant and the first superbike race was as exciting as the actual Sunflower.

When the rain began to fall shortly after 11am spectators’ spirits were a little dampened but with the strong wind the track was constantly drying, but looked pretty greasy, with a number of riders finding out the hard way touching white lines and sliding down the road, most of them losing the front end due to track conditions and attempting to compensate for a greasy track.

The Sunflower itself was a great race and despite the weather worsening the riders themselves put faith in their wet setup and went all out for the win. Walker was riding like a demon and if Rutter and Laverty hadn’t have made such a good start then he would have had a great chance of the win.

Rutter and Laverty both had a cracking race, swapping the lead on a number of occasions with a few mini highsides between them. All in all the 31st Sunflower meeting was a cracker and long may it continue.
