Michelin control tyre for Spanish Moto2

Michelin has become the official and exclusive tyre supplier to the Spanish Speed Championship’s newly-created Moto2 category. The deal is for a period of three seasons.

Struck jointly with Spain’s motorcycling governing body and with the championship’s promoter, DORNA, this agreement will permit Michelin to increase the awareness of its products via this fiercely fought series.

“Our presence in Moto2 will allow us to stay very active on the technical front thanks to the development of tyres that not only meet the demands of the riders, but which are also very close to those used at world level, since the Spanish and World Moto2 Championships are relatively similar technically,” says Philippe Mussati, who stands in for Jean-Philippe Weber as the new manager of Michelin Competition’s motorcycle racing activities.

“Spain is a big market for Michelin’s two-wheel products and the media coverage of the Spanish championship will provide us with a big boost in our bid to increase sales.

“This three-year commitment will also enable us to pursue the longstanding quality relationship we enjoy with DORNA.”

The Moto2 World Championship, run in conjunction with the MotoGP World Championship has a Dunlop one-make tyre rule.

The Spanish Speed Championship features seven rounds, including a visit to the new Motorland Aragon circuit.
