Spanish CEV series gets Junior World Championship status

The Spanish CEV series has been granted Junior World Championship status for its Moto3 class from 2015 onwards. The accompanying Moto2 and Superbike classes will also gain a promotion, becoming European championships.

The Moto3 series, which is seen as a direct feeder for the Moto3 world championship, saw 24 points scoring riders in 2014 – but only twelve of them came from Spain.

However, critics have hit out at the decision already, with the series only running over eight rounds, seven of which will remain on the Iberian Peninsula. The new European series’ only venture out of Spain will be the season-opening round at Portimao in Portugal, while the Moto3 class will support the French MotoGP round in May.

26 April Autódromo Internacional do Algarve – Portimão Portugal
17 May Le Mans (Moto3 only) France
21 June Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya Spain
5 July MotorLand Aragón Spain
6 September Circuito de Albacete Spain
4 October Circuito de Navarra Spain
1 November Circuito de Jerez Spain
15 November Comunitat Valenciana – Ricardo Tormo Spain
