Dakar stage 1: Video highlights

With the opening day of Dakar testing the riders out straight away with a long 838km day in the saddle, the route also had space to give something for everyone as it ploughed through the heart of the Argentine countryside.

Starting at 5.15am, it was 25 year old Brit Sam Sunderland who was able to make the most of the day, finishing the 170km special stage section five seconds clear of Honda rival Paulo Goncalves.
