McWilliams leads Island Classic at half way point

1 of 3

Team UK’s Jeremy McWilliams has finished the first day at Philip Island leading International Classic race series after a first and second in the opening day’s racing. His results have boosted a strong British team to only seven points behind the home favourites.

McWilliams was a strong contender for the opening race of the day, only just losing out on the line to Shawn Giles despite leading on the last lap, after clutch problems on his 1984 Yamaha Harris F1. TT winner Cameron Donald was third.

In race two, however, McWilliams was able to make amends – although only after a race long battle with British Superbike rider Jed Metcher and road racers Ryan Farquhar and John McGuinness.

With two more races on Sunday, McWilliams leads the overall standings from Metcher and former MotoGP rider Brendan Roberts, ahead of Team UK riders Farquhar and Conor Cummins.

However, DNFs have been sore on some of the other big names in the field, and Giles sits fifteenth despite his race one win, while Donald is nineteenth and McGuinness 23rd.
