2017 Dakar Rally winner Sam Sunderland turned heads as he rode his KTM 450 Factory Rally through London on Friday as he travelled to the Carole Nash London Motorcycle Show.

Sunderland became the first Brit to win the Dakar in any class with his stunning victory in this year’s event, which saw him fend off tough competition to take the crown just over a year after breaking his femur. He was joined on the ride by MCN Sports Editor, Michael Guy.

After passing key London landmarks, Sam’s ride ended as he rode in to London’s ExCel centre, through the crowds and onto the stage in the Slide arena where he appeared for interviews across the weekend.

“It’s been really cool to come back to London and see some British fans that are so passionate about what I’ve done. It makes me feel excited about it, I really enjoy meeting the fans, as it’s very humbling,” he said. “Today I got to ride my rally bike around London to do some sightseeing like a tourist, and it was quite special as obviously normally the bike is at races like Dakar, in the desert, or on rough terrain. We certainly got quite a lot of looks from people and photos taken. It was a strange, but really cool day, cruising around over Tower Bridge, by Houses of Parliament and so on. It’s been really fun and great to be at home in the UK.”
