Jared Mees has won his fourth American Flat Track championship after taking his ninth win of the season at the Williams Grove Half-Mile last weekend.

Mees’ championship victory brings to an end Harley-Davidson’s dominance in the sport and also marks Indian’s first championship after more than 60 years away from the sport.

“Entering the year, our team goal was to be competitive and refine our purpose-built Scout FTR750 to eventually become a leading bike,” said Gary Gray, Vice President – Product for Indian Motorcycle. “It’s safe to say we’ve far exceeded expectation by securing the Manufacturer’s Championship through 14 races and now the AFT Championship through 16 races. It’s an incredible accomplishment by the entire Indian Motorcycle Racing team.”

Indian have dominated the series after returning this year, with their Wrecking Crew team of Jared Mees, Brad Baker and and Bryan Smith combining to take 35 of this year’s 48 podiums, including six podium clean sweeps.

The three Indian team-mates currently occupy the top three spots in the championship. Sammy Halbert currently sits fourth onboard his Yamaha MT-07. Briar Bauman and Henry Wiles are the only non-Indian riders to take victories this year, with two victories and one victory respectively.
