Croft British Superbikes: HM Plant Honda's Jonathan Rea the man to beat at Croft

HM Plant Honda’s Jonathan Rea was the quickest rider again at Croft in this afternoon’s second free practice session.

Rea recorded a best time of 1:20.110 to go to the top of the leader board after 26 minutes before falling off on the next lap.

But the Ulsterman was able to carry on and just went back to the garages to get his CBR1000RR checked over before going out for some more laps.

It was his teammate Ryuichi Kiyonari who went in to the lead from the pits with a 1:37.332, but he was soon pipped out of his spot as the riders got in to their fast laps. Rea was first to go fastest with a 1:23.514 before Airwaves Ducati’s Gregorio Lavilla recorded a 1:21.643.

Lavilla then improved on his time knocking more than a second off as Ryuichi Kiyonari moved back up to second with a 1:21.163.

Stobart Vent Axia Honda’s Shane Byrne was on the pace for most of the session recording a 1:21.023 early on but had dropped out of the top five by the end.

Gregorio Lavilla knocked Rea off the top to go quickest after 11 mniutes with a 1:20.225, but it was Rea who would have the final say as he posted his 1:20.110.

Other fallers in the session were Hawk Kawasaki’s Scott Smart who went off after 25 minutes at Clerveaux and MSS Discovery Kawasaki’s Michael Rutter who went off at Tower 12 minutes before the end.

Honda rider Chris Martin had to stop with a technical problem at Tower.
