BSB: Walker - happy to be back at Mallory

After a tough start to the 2009 British Superbike season, Chris Walker has enjoyed a resurgence in form of late and that shows no signs of slowing down at Mallory Park this weekend.

The Leicestershire circuit was where Walker had his first ever race meeting back in 1994 and has enjoyed some of his best ever moments around the 1.4-mile course – and he’s hoping that trend will continue tomorrow.

Currently eighth in the Championship standings, Walker posted the third fastest time in Saturday morning’s final practice session and is clearly on the pace this weekend and happy to be back on familiar territory.

“I had my first ever race here at Mallory and it’s always been one of my favourite circuits so it’s good to be back here – it’s a great little track to ride on. I haven’t had the chance to ride here that much in recent years but the improvements we’ve been making with the bike in recent rounds has allowed us to come here with a good base setting and we haven’t too far off the pace since we got here. We’ve certainly gone from top ten to top six regulars so we’re just looking for that last little bit.”

“There’s a lot of traffic to contend with and you probably only get 2 decent laps from every ten you – when you do get clear track you end up trying too hard and so make mistakes. We’re there or thereabouts though and the area that we’re trying to improve the most is the agility and manoeuvrability of the bike – it’s feels a bit big and heavy through the chicanes so if we can improve that we should be able to find those extra couple of tenths.”
