Valentine says keep FIM superbike rules

Worx Suzuki team boss Jack Valentine is not convinced that the new Evo rules that call fro superstock engines and control ECUs are the way forward for BSB.

He told MCN: “The FIM superbike rules (which allow full engine tuning and full engine management systems) are by far the best. Suzuki’s philosophy is that want to follow the FIM too. If the FIM switch to Evo rules, well, that’s a different issue and then will have to follow suit.

“I think the rules will be a technical nightmare to police. We’ll have to strip engines on a regular basis. If BSB wants to cut costs, let’s just have the one bike per rider.

That’s The Evo rules are being trialled in 2010 as a replacement to the current Cup class, where privateers race for a separate points fund on full-tuned BSB bikes at present.  But under the Evo rules, anyone from the top factory teams to the privateers  can enter bikes in the new class.

Valentine added: “The good thing is that the Evo class will not be implement for 2011 without discussion with the Team’s Liaison Group.  Unlike the AMA Superbike championship run by DMG who dictate the rules there, at least the FLG talk to MSVR (The BSB series promoters).

“We’ve talked about the Evo class rules for some time (at TLG/MSVR meetings), about how to implement them, and they are fine as a replacement to the Cup.
But we’ve still got the best domestic championship in the world. No question. And whatever rules you have, the teams with the biggest budgets will win.”
