Cadwell Park BSB: Laverty takes red-flagged race one win

1 of 1

Swan Yamaha’s Michael Laverty improved his chances of securing a spot in the six rider showdown by taking victory in the first of three races at Cadwell Parl today after the race was red-flagged due to rain at the end of lap 11.

Laverty and team-mate Tommy Hill continued their dominance of the weekend with blistering starts off the line, opening up a lead of six seconds after only five laps on the rest of the pack. Hill stuck with Laverty to finish second.

Relentless by TAS Suzuki rider Josh Brookes took the final step on the podium after a controversial move on Michael Rutter on lap six.

Brookes got the drive over the mountain section and went up the inside of Rutter into Hall Bends. Rutter didn’t see Brookes and the pair touched. Rutter sat his Ducati up and ran across the grass before falling off and sliding across the track in front of Shane Byrne.

The incident is currently under investigation.

Reigning champion Ryuichi Kiyonari improved drastically on his qualifying performance to move through the pack and up to sixth when the race was stopped, behind John Kirkham and Shane Byrne.
