Ducati Coventry aiming for double success

The Ducati Coventry-backed JHP Racing squad will return to the National Superstock Championship in 2014, with former championship podium finisher Luke Quigley signed to compete on the team’s 1199 Panigale.

The team have also signed 2013 Ducati TriOptions Cup winner Marty Nutt to ride the new 899 in the class, alongside last season’s sixth place finisher Darren Fry.

With the superstock class seen as increasingly important for the Italian brand, they have brought onboard an experienced package in the form of Quigley, with the clear goal for the season of a championship victory.

Speaking at Motorcycle Live, where the deal was announced, Quigley said: “I have only ridden a Ducati once before for Ducati Coventry on a one off ride in the Supersport Championship on a 749R. It was a great experience and I loved working with the team so it is great to be with JHP who are a cracking team. I’m really excited about riding the 1199 Panigale, just can’t wait to get on it, it’s just such a fantastic looking bike. I have seen first-hand on track last year what the bike can do and my main goal next year is to win the Championship – I’m not going to settle for anything less.”

Nutt added: “I’m really looking forward to getting out on the 899 Panigale, obviously I’ve only ridden the bike for a few parade laps in the rain at Brands Hatch, but the bike feels really good. There’s a lot more room on the new bike and seeing it in race trim has made me excited to get going. Also it will be good to go out there and not have a championship title in the back of your head – some of the races towards the end of last season I was settling for the position I had which is not something I like doing. It will be good to get out there again and push for wins and scrap it out.”
