Smiths Racing Triumph set for WSS wildcards

Smiths Racing Triumph will graduate to a full factory-supported team for 2014, and are set to wildcard in a number of World Championship rounds as well as continuing their British Supersport campaign.

The team will be the first time that Triumph have supported a race team in an official capacity for a number of seasons, and the Smiths squad are confident that their development program on the new-for-2013 Daytona 675 can only be helped with Hinckley’s involvement.

The team have retained Australian Billy McConnell for 2014, but are currently in negotiations with a number of riders to replace fellow Australian Glen Richards, who has had a year plagued with injury. Current championship leader Stuart Easton has been linked to the team, as has Graeme Gowland.

Team manager Rebecca Smith said “We are very pleased to be appointed the official Triumph team in the 2014 British Supersport Championship. Our team has worked incredibly hard to develop the brand new 675R this year and as the season has progressed, we have proven just how competitive the machine can be.”
