Donington BSB: Lowes powers to second double in two rounds

1 of 2

Alex Lowes has scored a double win, his second on the trot, taking race two in dominant form at Brands Hatch from main championship rival Shane Byrne.

Lowes led the race from start to finish, taking the lead and controlling the race from the front with a pace that surprised his rivals, setting times only fractions of a second off the lap record for the entire twenty lap race.

Byrne was able to set up a move on the last lap, attempting a pass, but the entry speed into the Esses after slipstreaming Lowes for much of the back straight surprised the reigning champion, forcing him to brake and allowing Lowes to regain the advantage, which he held to the line.

Third was Tommy Bridewell, part of a group containing James Ellison, James Westmoreland and Josh Brookes that hung with the leaders for most of the race. However, Ellison, attempting an overtake on Lowes, forced himself wide, allowing the front two to escape and handing Bridewell his second podium in two rounds.

Westmoreland was fourth, upping his game and securing his final Showdown place in the process, with teammate Kirkham back in seventh behind Brookes, who struggled all weekend with grip, and a regrouping Ellison.
