The Anvil TAG Yamaha trio of Billy McConnell, James Rispoli and Shaun Winfield have completed their first test on their new R1 machinery ahead of the 2016 MCE British Superbike season.
Taking to Cartagena in southern Spain just before Christmas, the test gave American supersport Rispoli his first chance to try out superbike machinery; a challenge the rookie seems to have taken to with ease.

“We have a good understanding now of what we need to do before our next tests in January where we can build on what we have learnt today. We made steady progress all day and to be honest I wasn’t that far off, which was a good start.

“The R1 is literally the perfect bike to step up to Superbike with because it feels like a big R6. We have made a consistent start and with more miles and upgrades for our next tests we should be in a good place. I am happy with today’s progress and now we can get ready for our next tests which will be important for the start of the season.”

Joined by former British Supersport champion McConnell, the Australian in the global squad agreed with his teammate that it was good to get a direction ahead of the winter break.

“It has been a really good day, especially to have done it before Christmas and to have some knowledge already in the bag. We can now come up with a bit of a wish list of what we need to do and work towards for our next real test in January after today’s run out. For the first test on the new Yamaha I am really happy and the new R1 feels really good.”
