Honda’s Jason O’Halloran shrugged off a late crash to top the timesheets on an interesting first day of the fifth round of the 2016 MCE British Superbikes at Snetterton.

Having enjoyed a positive test at the Norfolk circuit three weeks ago, the Aussie comfortably led the way in the day’s only dry session.

Danny Buchan made a huge step forward with the Lloyds British Moto Rapido Ducati to come within a tenth of the Honda man, with fellow young gun Luke Mossey third.

Peter Hickman was sixth fastest for JG Speedfit Kawasaki with Shane Byrne, debuting a new underseat exhaust on his Panigale R this weekend, fifth. The Bennetts Suzuki of Tommy Bridewell rounded out the top six.

Glenn Irwin got off to an impressive start in seventh ahead of series returnee Broc Parkes, who is deputising for the injured John Hopkins at ePayMe Yamaha. Dan Linfoot was ninth while James Ellison rounded out the top ten.

Leon Haslam was eleventh as he struggled with a number of technical issues but he wasn’t the only title contender outside the top ten, with Tyco BMW duo Michael Laverty and Christian Iddon 12th and 13th respectively.
